Seasonal upkeep
Service the furnace or boiler
Book a heating tune-up before cold weather, and replace the filter while you're at it. Oil heat needs this every year: the tech cleans the burner and replaces the nozzle and oil filter. Ask the tech to date the service tag on the unit, then add a photo of it to your home record; buyers and inspectors look for it.
