Look under the water heater, AC air handler, washer and fridge. Water in a pan means something upstream is leaking.

What to look for
Look in the pan under the water heater and the condensate pan under the AC coil or air handler. Water, rust or stains mean something is leaking or a drain is clogged.
Why it matters
A wet pan is an early warning. Ignore it and the overflow ends up in ceilings and floors.
